Which is stronger for you? Visual information or words?
After you click start, you will be presented with a bunch of words.
Look at the colour of each word.
Say that colour aloud.
If you make a mistake, just keep trying until you get it right.
Go as quickly as you can - you will be timed.
Now we are going to do the same thing, but the words will be different.
This time, the colours and the words will not match.
Again, say the colours of each word out loud.
But say the colour of the word, not the word itself.
Time for matching words: 0 seconds.
Time for mismatched words: 0 seconds.
If you tend to rely more on visual information instead of words, your two times should match pretty closely.
If the you tend to rely more on words, it will have taken much longer to say the mismatched words.
Nearly everyone finds that it takes much longer to say the mismatched words. This is normal.
This illustrates the power of language over our perceptions.
